"The Envelope" ... Please

Now that the joke show is over (The Golden Globes), time to get serious ... for the other joke show, the Oscar telecast (rim shot!). Though, this one does have Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin co-hosting, and at least does have an actual member-academy voting on the performances of their peers.

Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will be terrific in their roles as Masters of Ceremony, especially considering their track record of hosting Saturday Night Live, lo', so many times, saving oh, so many bad SNL seasons. Whilst I'm not yet making predictions, I thought I'd share with you, Dear Reader, what the L.A. Times has on their much improved (design wise -- their liberal slant still needs some tweaking) website. From their Entertainment/Calendar section is a very fine bit of industry town musings, viz., "The Envelope." This panel interview by James Horn is a very nice little clip with the top directors for 2009. Do you have a favorite of the bunch?

Let us know what you think ...

Its hard to be pissed loosing the James Cameron. Although I think Reitman's work is stronger the young guy may have to take a step back for the sci-fi legend. Great clip btw.

WOW!!-encouraging examples of artists who had their ideas and were willing to stick to and fight for those ideas...They also had those ideas written down and well thought out!!!
Thank you for the great clip....

J Gregg; I wish I had a strong conviction as to which director should win an Oscar, but sadly I have too many movies to catch up on to make an informed decision. If it were a shallow decision & based on a person's good looks, I'd pick Jason, hands down. Ok, that's lame, but it's as deep as I can go tonight...
Thanks again for the clip, great fun. Hope you have not been swept up in a tornado, or down a hill this week? Sending yo some sun for this weekend. x

JG ... Every time I read your blog, I realize that I truly do not get out enough ... way too many movies I need to see ! Unable to make an educated decision just yet ... but now much more motivated to get there. ( currently working through your 2009 list ... at a snails pace )

Thank you for visiting and leaving such kind words. Interesting situation ... you would like a painting and I need someone who can write ! ;)

Hey, JG. Thanks for you kudos over my way. I can laugh at Alec Baldwin when he's kidding; it's when he gets serious and goes off the deep end that I want him ... to honor his promise to leave America.

Tarantino ... he is the friggin' man.

Dude ... you don't know how much I owe you for helping to bring me back from the brink of stupidity. Thanks, man.

Hmmmm. Can Baldwin keep his political mouth shut for a whole evening?
As for directors: kind of interesting to have Cameron and Bigelow up at the same time... like it or not I think it's going to be between them. Bigelow perhaps has the edge because she would be the first woman to win. (Could they perhaps be embarrassed about that?)
